Due to the threat of Mongol invasions, Rumi’s family migrated westward, eventually settling in Konya, in present-day Turkey.

Personal Life

Rumi’s spiritual life transformed profoundly after meeting Shams-e Tabrizi, a wandering dervish, in 1244. Shams became his mentor and close companion, inspiring a deep mystical awakening in Rumi. After Shams mysteriously disappeared, Rumi expressed his grief and devotion through poetry and music.

Rumi’s poetry transcends religion and nationality, emphasizing love, tolerance, and human connection.
